Frequently asked questions

Honest answers about doula support, the meetup, IVF abroad, and why IVF can feel so overwhelming.

IVF doula support

What is an IVF doula?

A non-medical support person who helps you feel less alone, more organized, and more resourced through IVF. Support works alongside your clinic, doctor, and therapist and never replaces them.

Why do people seek IVF support?

Because IVF can make ordinary life feel like it has been taken over: appointments, medication instructions, financial decisions, portal messages, hope, grief, jealousy, waiting, and questions you only think of after the appointment ends. Even with a supportive partner there is often a weight only you — and someone who has gone through it — can understand. I’ve been there, feeling a gap in care that my clinic was unable to solve for me.

What happens if I get pregnant?

If you become pregnant, we can talk through what kind of support would feel most helpful next. When appropriate, I can help you explore options for a birth doula or another warm handoff, so you continue to feel held and supported as your care needs change.

Is this medical care?

No. Alison does not provide medical advice, interpret labs or embryo reports, recommend medication changes, diagnose, provide therapy, or guarantee outcomes.

Do I need to be in Colorado?

No. Support is virtual for clients anywhere, with local in-person support in Northern Colorado when appropriate.

Do you offer support in Spanish?

I speak conversational Spanish and welcome Spanish-speaking clients who are comfortable with bilingual English/Spanish support. I’m not a medical interpreter, and clinic communication or medical interpretation should still go through your clinic’s approved language-support services when needed.

No. The meetup is not recorded.

IVF abroad

Can Alison help with IVF abroad?

Yes. Planning for IVF abroad — packing, documents, travel logistics, clinic communication, personalized research, and questions to ask — is one of the areas Alison supports.

Is there anything free to help me prepare?

Yes. The free IVF Abroad Packing List is based on Alison’s own trips and what she learned she really needed.

IVF Companion offers non-medical support. Nothing on this page is medical advice. Questions about your treatment, medications, or results belong with your licensed medical team.
